DJ nick ac![]() Nick ac stands out as one of the key figures to emerge out of the US electronic music scene in recent years. Originally hailing from the UK he was heavily influenced by London's club scene during the early nineties. Now as creator of the infamous ROBOTS parties in New York he has helped inject life into a floundering US electronic music scene and shape the city's outlook on electronic music. He has been instrumental in sustaining a vibrant underground music scene in New York, bringing over and exposing numerous artists and musicians as well as imprinting his own unique sound on the city. Drawing from a rich diversity of influences from over a decade in the industry, Nick has developed a unique style that relies on sophisticated cutting edge sounds, moving soundscapes and an electronic sensibility derived as much from early pursuits in dub, electronica and Detroit's techno soul as today's German minimalism and modern house/techno music. His keen ear, knowledge for what works on the dancefloor and appreciation for varying styles of music has enabled him to stand out from his peers and become a big influence on others. His ability to move through sets encompassing ambient minimal electro to peak time techno has been captured on four acclaimed mixes from 2004 to 2005: Robots Vol. 1, Select Cuts, Light in the Tunnel and Robot Love. "It was always a combination of sounds - the futuristic, electronic and emotive that were really appealing to me." Early on he explored everything from electronic releases on Warp records such as 'Artificial Intelligence' to ambient artists such as Irresistible Force and Richard H Kirk; and from club-orientated creations on Eye-Q Records and Harthouse to the early goa influenced releases on Dragonfly Records. He also kept a close eye on labels coming out of America such as Plus 8, Axis and Underground Resistance. Inspired by the freshness and innovativeness of the music he became eager to get involved. In 1996 at the age of 16 he purchased his first set of turntables and has since never looked back. In 1998 he moved to Manchester and got his first break with a job at the club Sankey's Soap, the home of Tribal Gathering and Tribal Sessions [www.tribalgathering.co.uk] - one of the UK's most notorious club nights. Overseeing promotion for the club Nick was quick to establish contact and friends amongst many major players in the international music industry. He also found time to set up and promote the successful dub party 'Luvdub' at the unique Mancunian venue, 'Band on the Wall' and assist the now defunct techno label Prime Distribution's with its 'Intergalactik Funk' techno night at Manchester's Music Box brining in the likes of Adam Beyer, Umek and Ben Simms. During his time in Manchester Nick completely submersed himself in the club scene and could be found in venues all across the city either promoting or spinning tunes ranging from techno to dub, alongside artists as varied as Sven Vath, Jah Shakka and Andrew Weatherall. In 2001 Nick met Mike Bindra (previously of Twilo, New York) and accepted the opportunity to work with him in New York on the legendary club space at 6 Hubert Street: Vinyl, that became the landmark club, arc. [www.arcspace.net]. From the start the emphasis was firmly on the music and Nick hosted the internationally celebrated Friday night party 'Be Yourself' with Danny Tenaglia as well as bringing in the likes of Richie Hawtin, Jeff Mills, Steve Bug, Josh Wink, Deep Dish, Chris Liebing, and Danny Howells. During his time he helped establish arc as the premier venue for electronic music in the city. His experience at the club exposed him to a huge number of opportunities and developed him as one of the major players in the US electronic scene. His passion for DJing and keeping the scene pushing forwards lead Nick to set up ROBOTS [www.wearerobots.net] in 2004, exposing underground talent to new fans and veterans alike. "The idea was about pushing a variety of artists from electro, to minimal house, to techno that did not previously have much of a platform in the US..." Nick established the party as a weekly event but soon added bigger one-off monthly shows to accommodate the rise in its popularity, DJing along side the likes of Tiefschwarz, Jori Hulkkonen, Michael Mayer, Jake Fairley, Magda, Run Stop Restore, Scape One, Tony Rohr, Mathew Dear, Jeff Samuel, Marco Carola, Matthew French, Andy Vaz, Radioactive Man, Pier Bucci, Ellen Allien, T.Raumschmiere, Cari Lekebusch, Superpitcher and Tobi Neumann. In little over a year ROBOTS has gained worldwide recognition and has become one of New York's most acclaimed parties. Nick has seen his reputation and fan base grow considerably. 2005 saw Nick team up with Chris Liebing for a bi-monthly residency at Avalon, New York, hold a packed party down at Miami's Winter Music Conference with Sven Vath and complete the ROBOTS One Year Anniversary with legendary DJ and producer Francois K. He also set up and runs a weekly radio show, RobotRadio out of the East Village in New York, which he operates with fellow residents Bill Patrick and Dennis Rodgers. Showcasing upcoming artists and featuring guest interviews and new releases the show acts as another tool Nick uses to push the electronic music scene to the masses. 2006 will see Nick make a much needed move back to the studio to start work on producing for a forthcoming Robots label. It will also see the launch of the first Robots compilation CD and a focus on Europe, bringing his music back home! Whether promoting, producing, or DJing, Nick's ambition is clear: to be at the forefront of the electronic music scene and bring the best of his music to the people. |

A dream come true and a huge achievement for someone with only 5 years behind the decks. Showcasing a flawlessly blended brand of electro, minimal house and techno, Patrick continues to rise to the top of an increasingly crowded underground electronic music scene.
